What is Our Mission?

05-06-2018Weekly ReflectionFr. Francisco “Bing” Colasito

Our Church was created to evangelize; to bring the message of the Gospel to all corners of the earth. We weren’t called to just attend Mass once a week for an hour. We are called to be lights of His love to all people at all times. It’s simple to understand but sometimes difficult to live. Those that accept this mission are called disciples.

That’s what the Easter season is all about. It’s our opportunity to use our renewed zeal and love of Christ and His Church as a catalyst for action. It’s our opportunity to bring others closer to Christ through the sharing of our gifts and charisms. It’s our opportunity to renew, rejuvenate or maybe even resurrect our call to discipleship.

This weekend’s Gospel ends with Christ saying “… that you bear much fruit and prove to be my disciples.” Jn 15:8. We all need to ask ourselves how we do we move from observing to participating; to being fruitful and to proving.

Start with prayer. Ask our loving Father how you can discern and follow His will for you. I personally love the Prayer of Abandonment by Blessed Charles de Foucauld https://www.ewtn.com/devotionals/prayers/Abandonment.htm. Whatever the call, remember He’s with you. There’s nothing to fear. As he told the disciples at their commissioning “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Are you ready to get your disciple on?

He Is Risen. Alleluia!
