Word of Life

12-16-2018Weekly ReflectionFr. Bing Colasito

Mary’s visit to Elizabeth (Lk. 1:39-45) Mary traveled from Nazareth to a hill country village called Ain Karim (90 miles south) near Jerusalem, traditionally accepted as the place where Zechariah and his family lived. It’s around five miles southwest of Jerusalem, not too far from the temple where Zechariah goes to fulfill his daily priestly duties.

When Mary greeted Elizabeth, the child in her womb leaped for joy. Both the mother and the child were filled by the Holy Spirit. “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” Elizabeth recognizes that Mary herself has conceived, and the baby in Mary’s womb is the Lord, the Messiah. “How does this happen that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” In effect, this was a visit of the Mother of God theotokos to Zachariah, Elizabeth, and the infant in her womb, John.

Like Mary, how can I align my will to the Will of God? How do I react when faced with the mystery of God’s will for me?

Be in God,
