Word of Life

01-20-2019Weekly ReflectionFr. Bing Colasito

“Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” Lk. 4:21 After Jesus read from the passage of Is. 61:1-2, where the prophet announces the coming of the Lord who will liberate his people from all their afflictions, He closes the scroll - people expect Him to give a short homily or give some instructions. The passage tells us two things: God will bring salvation to his people, and the anointed one to affect this salvation.

Then in their hearing, He says, that these two elements of the divine plan have come to pass through Him. Moving to v. 21, Jesus in effect is saying that the message of salvation is actualized in Him. “Since the Good News is Christ, there is an identity between the message and the messenger, between saying and doing.” (Redemptoris mission, 13)

Do I truly believe that Jesus is the anointed one and my Lord and savior? Do I center my life on the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist?

Be in God,
Fr. Bing
