An Evening With Patrick Madrid

Best-selling author and radio host Patrick Madrid will visit St. Rose Philippine Duchesne on Fri, Feb 4 to present a seminar on Why be Catholic, Apologetics & Catholics and the Bible. The event will begin at 6:00pm and is open to the public.

“Apologetics” is a term in Catholic theology which refers to the process of explaining the Catholic Faith and answering questions and objections in a charitable and respectful way. After an intermission for refreshments and a book signing by Mr. Madrid, who will have many of his books available, a lively question-and-answer session with extended audience participation will follow the presentation. Apologetics has been present in the Catholic Church since the days of the New Testament. Some prominent Catholic apologists include St. Paul, Augustine of Hippo, Thomas Aquinas, Francis de Sales, and John Henry Newman. The field of Catholic apologetics and evangelization has experienced a strong resurgence, especially among lay Catholics in the United States, in the last decade.

Patrick Madrid has authored or edited 26 books on Catholic themes including, Why Be Catholic? (Doubleday), Pope FictionSearch and RescueDoes the Bible Really Say That?, The Godless Delusion, and the multi-volume Surprised by Truth series.

Mr. Madrid earned a bachelor’s degree in business management, as well as a  B.Phil. in philosophy and an M.A. in theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. He and his wife Nancy have been married for 40 years and have eleven children and 28 grandchildren. In addition to his work as an author, Madrid also hosts the popular 3-hour “Patrick Madrid” show on Relevant Radio (www.relevantradio.com/patrick), heard Monday through Friday from 8-11 am Central. At the invitation of numerous bishops and priests, he has conducted hundreds of apologetics and evangelization conferences in English and Spanish at parishes, seminaries, and universities across the U.S., as well as throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He is a regular presenter at Franciscan University of Steubenville’s “Defending the Faith” summer conferences, where he has served as an adjunct professor of theology. He is also am adjunct professor of apologetics at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut, and at Saint Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, California.
